Infographic: How Generation Z uses social media

For the past few years, communicators have been poking, prodding and researching millennials, trying to understand their mysterious ways.

Although millennials do expect different things from their employers and have some slightly different communication habits from those of other generations, it turns out they aren’t so different from everyone else after all.

As a millennial, I’m grateful to be able to pass this scrutiny on to the next generation on communicators’ radar: Generation Z.

If this group is on your list of target audiences, check out this infographic by Scott Jacobs. It examines how members of Generation Z (those born after 1995) use social media.

A few interesting findings:

  • Generation Z uses Facebook more than any other social network, but Snapchat and Instagram take a close second and third place, respectively.
  • YouTube and Facebook are Generation Z’s preferred channels for watching videos.
  • More members of Generation Z follow celebrities on YouTube than any other social network.
  • Sixty-one percent of Generation Z-ers prefer in-person conversations over all other communication methods. (Only 20 percent preferred texting.)
