Infographic: A fun list of internet 'firsts'

During the 2015 Super Bowl, BMW aired a commercial that featured Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel trying to understand the internet in its early stages.

The commercial was a tremendous hit because, well, it’s hard to imagine a world without internet.

We use it to communicate with friends and family, conduct work, shop, watch TV, navigate and myriad other activities.

Imagine trying to get through one day of work without the internet. Could you do it?

Whether we want to admit it or not, the internet is an enormous part of our lives—and it’s fun to look back at its humble beginnings.

This infographic from SSLs.com lists some interesting internet firsts, such as the first website, blog, uploaded image, email (and spam email), Skype message and Instagram photo.

Did you know that the first website was created to help explain the internet, and the first uploaded image was about the size of a postage stamp and took longer than a minute to load?

Fast-forward to more modern times: The first Instagram photo was an image of a dog and a sandal.
